Death of An Icon

August 6, 2019 Mark Sanders
Dr. Carl Bell.jpeg

We received the news today of the death of Dr. Carl Bell a distinguished psychiatrist from the South Side of Chicago. Congressman Danny K. Davis said, "Carl Bell is the greatest psychiatrist in the world." Others called Dr. Bell, "an African American Sigmund Freud." Bells early work focused on violence prevention in African American Communities. He achieved notoriety for his work on mental health and addictions protection factors for African Americans and his research on the impact of trauma on child development. Bell published over 400 scholarly articles. His most recent work focused on preventing Fetal Alcohol syndrome in African American Children.

He will be greatly missed! We are fortunate that he mentored scores of psychiatrists to continue his great work
